Review by Tommy T - DSBP Records / Black Sheep E-Zine
This 8 song cd took me by surprise with its intense and engaging sound of harsh-industrial/coldwave , chock full of guitars, and harsh authoritive vocals! this one stood out among the wimpy pop stuff and cloning European bands demos I have been receiving alot lately.
The album opens with the intro "Static Interpretations", then comes the deep bass and some breakbeats which brings us to the BILE-esque sounds of "Order Out Of Chaos", which is described as the track title implies...brutal and gutteral sounds pounding you in a mosh-like frenzy! chugging guitars, swirling synths and some nice breakdowns as well.
Next is "Antithesis", this one comes at full force once again..reminding me a bit of early 90's MINISTRY with an original twist, and a really cool breakdown with about 1:30 remaining in the track. "Suspension Of Disbelief" is next, and this track is their strongest potential for a single in my opinion... a very good balance of electronics, deep bass bleeps, hardcore bass guitar sounds and alluringly aggressive, dark vocals... this track totally kicked my ass in over and over.
Track 5 is "Deface" and this one starts out nice with the "i'm retired from the human race" sample at the top...then the electronics and a dancey drum beat rock the tune. A flanged effect on the vocals this time and a very original sound overall on this track with the electronics and guitars... this one seemed to have the guitars in the background a little more than before, giving the driving beat and electronics more focus. "Higher States Of Consciousness" is up next, and this one starts out with a sci-fi soundtrack feel, and then some tribalesque rhythms/electronics come in and some female spoken samples from sci-fi movies no doubt...a very different feel on this one.
The album ends with 2 remixes, one of "Suspension Of Disbelief" from CEOXIME. This one works well with mixing drum-n-bass and electro-industrial textures. This mix gives the song a more "dark electro" sound and is free of guitars. The album ends a remix of "Deface" from IAMMYNEWT. There's a more dancy technoid electro on this remix, with some sparse guitar samples thrown in, and a very nice chorus stretch effect on the vocals which make them seem more ghostly and industrialized...very cool remix except that the drum beat doesn't change much and could benefit more from doing so.
Overall a very impressive debut from this new mid-west duo from the Thirdware Collective. I look forward to hearing more from them, and hearing their sound develop even more originally...this is a great start!
