Our Role Models are Machines

Review by Industrial.org

A lot of coldwave really bugs me. But then again, a lot of music bugs me. I've more or less come to accept the fact that the majority of art is total shit, and only like 1% is really worth anything. But then again, that should be common knowledge, and 1% percent out of a billion or so is a lot of art, so I guess the situation isn't that bad. Luckily, Cyanotic are one of those bands in the 1% that are pretty fucking good.

"Transhuman" is Cyanotic's debut full length disc, but it sounds like these dudes have been playing for quite some time. There is a lot of diversity in the songs, and everything is very tight in the execution and production arenas. It's like somebody took the best of Ministry and early Invisible records stuff, beat the shit out of it, gave it new gear, and let it loose to destroy the world. But really that's not fair, these dudes are better than that.

I mean sure, there are some cliché moments here and there, but the overall product compensates for those few transgressions a million times over. You get experimental noisy soundscapes and pounding beats, grinding guitars, and processed vocals that actually manage to sound angry and intelligent. Other bands do this, but they don't do it this good. This is definitely the best coldwave record I've heard in a long fucking time. Seriously.
