I hear a fair amount of industrial music as a reviewer and I have to rank Cyanotic as one of the stronger acts to come my way in a while. While it has something in common with aggro industrial acts like Front Line Assembly, Decoded Feedback, etc. - you know, all those bands that thump heavy electro beats and distort the shit out of themselves - there’s something also qualitatively different. A biggie is that Cyanotic belongs to the breed of aggro-electro-industrial that, while electronic at its roots, is also heavy and dark in a way that metal is, though this isn’t heavy metal. I guess, for me, they just stand out a little bit. You can hear bits of Ministry and Bile floating around in here, but it’s referenced obliquely. Thick, heavy textures, hard electro grooves and often guitarish thickness, not to mention rasping, grim vocals, all converge to create a definitive CD of aggro-industrial bloodletting.
